What We Do
 |
| This
orphaned fox was raised on our sanctuary by the feral cat beside it. |
The All Creatures Sanctuary
rescues orphaned and injured wildlife (rehabilitating and releasing
whenever possible), downed farm animals (ex. calves born at slaughter
house), unmanageable or abused exotics (iguanas, emus, domestic
raccoons), abused and tortured domestic animals, and homeless persons
willing to help the sanctuary. We at the sanctuary feed Cell
Tech's SBG Animal Algae to all residents (human and animal). We
have had incredible success.
All Creatures Sanctuary has
been rescuing creatures of the two and four-legged variety since
1985. Below is a short list of our activities:
- Wildlife Rescue &
Rehabilitation - over the last 10 years, we have received statewide
awards and recognition for our tenacious work to save and protect
precious wildlife.
- Wildlife Refuge -
Permanent sanctuary on our farm is given to creatures unable to be
rescued in the wild. They will live out there lives in peace on
our farm, proving that euthanasia is not the only solution, as some
agencies believe.
- Creatures 'n Crisis
- A program to increase awareness of the need for peaceful co-existence
between people and all the living creatures with whom we share our
planet. Protection of the Silver River Monkeys and
Belleview's Lake Lillian Ducks are two ongoing concerns addressed
by this program, led by our dedicated animal activists. Poachers
beware!
- Pet Protection -
Abused animals find sanctuary on our farm and we remain alert to state
and local legislation affecting the rights of pets. We also
educate the community about the need for neutering and promoting
kindness to all creatures.
- Environmental
Protection - We strive to preserve our precious natural resources
with the help of CAPP (Citizens for Action and Progressive Planning),
Marion County's environmental watchdog group. Ocala Caverns,
greenspace, and wildlife habitats and gardens
are just a few examples of our continuing efforts.
- Recycling - FFEA
(our parent organization) was first to create a viable Recycling
program in Marion County. After noting widespread use and demand,
the County began its own program three years later. FFEA still
sponsors an annual Christmas Tree Recycling Program,
transforming discarded trees into a protective hedge for wildlife at
our refuge.
- Earth Day -
Now a joint project with the Marion Audubon Society, thousands have
attended this spring event since FFEA first held it in 1985.
- Yearly Earth Guide
- An annual resource booklet of North Central Florida's natural world
and the legislators currently responsible for safeguarding it.
- Kinder Kids Through
Conservation - An educational program for schools and youth groups.
Other environmental
education efforts include an Environmental Loan Library, News Releases,
Family Outings, Wildlife Workshops, and Public Presentations.

Our
Founder
Born and raised in the cold horse country of upstate New York, Tish
Hennessey helped pay for her undergraduate degree as a leading model
for Eastman Kodak and as an equine trainer of competitive Hunter and
Jumpers.
The harsh winters of upstate
New York soon took a toll on Tish's lung condition, and she took refuge
in the Sunshine State's beautiful Ocala.
In Ocala, she taught and
furthered her own education, acquiring degrees to assist those with
educational challenges and the administration of such programs.
She received certification in administration, elementary education,
remedial reading, and math.
Tish soon became involved in
the preservation of Ocala's fragile environment and all of the
creatures (feathered, furred, scaled, and human) that inhabit this
beautiful area.
Her services included:
| Local
Pursuits |
- President of Local
Chamber of Commerce
- President of
Audubon Society of Marion County
- Founder of several
environmental and animal protection organizations including Foundation
for Environmental Awareness (FFEA), Save the Osprey, Save the Silver
River Monkey, and All Creatures Sanctuary
- Co-founder,
Environmental Advocates
- Humane Society
Board Member, Vie President, and Facilitator
|
| Statewide

- Board Member and
officer of Florida Audubon
|
In 1995, Tish's chronic lung
condition worsened, rendering her unable to continue her formal
teaching career. The community rallied around her sending her to
the world's finest lung clinic to successfully extend her life
expectancy.
Her selfless spirit shines
through her stabilized but critical lung condition. her undaunted
spirit still remains as an excellent role model to rehabilitating
criminals (adult and junior), addicts, welfare recipients, biology
students, and wildlife enthusiasts.
All Tish Hennessey's civic
and animal protection work has been achieved without financial
compensation of any kind. She gives of herself without any
expectation of compensation or accolades.
In an age of cruelty, Tish
strives to be an example of humane kindness to all life forms and the
environment in which they live.
