Thank you so very much for your
support of the Sanctuary's work. Thought you would enjoy an update on
what is happening here at ACS. Babies, Babies, it's busy baby season.
Orphaned and injured babies are usually brought to the sanctuary as we
promote: "Planned Animal Parenthood". However, things do happen even
here at ACS. A young goose couple stole a nest of seven eggs, which
they secretly hatched. Now the parents have the babies on display to
all the visitors. When you first see the proud family, it is hard to
tell what is abnormal. If you look closely, you will see mom and dad
geese are actually raising ducklings! In the excitement of having their
fist family, mom and dad goose mistook duck eggs for their own eggs.
The unusual D'Goose family welcomes everyone upon arrival. We have a new project
formulating. "Project Grizzly". I met Grizzly on Friday afternoon on
July 26 at 4:15. I remember it exactly as I had to call to see how much
longer the Marion County Animal Center would be open to seeif they had
room for Grizzly. Grizzly was a beatiful Golden Retriever whose human
family no longer wanted him, so they wanted to drop him off at the
Sanctuary. I assured them that the animal center had room for him in
their adoption program. They had time and I offered them gas money to
get Grizzly to the animal center before it closed for the day. We do
not accommodate domestics (cats and dogs) unless they are severe cases
of torture or abuse. Our mission is wildlife. I drove out the main gate
leaving for the weekend fundraiser. Grizzly's family drove out the back
gate. I dreamed of Grizzly that night and promised myself that I would call Jill at the animal center first thing Monday to make sure that Grizzly had arrived and was doing well. I returned home Sunday
afternoon. The Sanctuary returned to its usual height of activity. The
front and back gates opened to expected traffic. That is when a
horrific tragedy was discovered. Grizzly's human family had abandoned
him at the back gate and left him to die. The unconscious body of a Golden
Retriever was found on the back road of the Sanctuary. Grizzly's humans
had abandoned him after they left the sanctuary Friday evening. In
extreme heat he became dehydrated and suffered extreme heatstroke. Dr. Angel Smith (our angel of a
vet) struggled to save him. We worked on him for two days but his
heat-baked body could not overcome the damage. For Grizzly's sake, we will not
turn away any dogs or cats to be dumped and die of thirst or
starvation. No, we cannot keep all the dogs and cats, but we can find
suitable domestic facilities with appropriate room and adoption
programs. So, in Grizzly's name, we need
assistance to build a couple of holding runs for dogs and cats. We will
not only need financial help with the facility, but most importantly,
someone to help locate domestic rescue facilities and transport the
occasional dog or cat that needs assistance. With your help, in the
name of Grizzly, we can prevent such an awful thing from happening
again. With Sincere Appreciation, Tish Hennessey
